- String of pearls plant is a miracle of nature. Instead of the commonly seen one- or two- dimensionally extending leaves, the leaves of string of pearls are in a spheric shape resembling pearls in a green color. The “pearls” are connected by stems forming the string of pearls.
- Under ideal conditional the plants can reach several feet long cascading down along the edges of the containers. String of pearls can be grown as a regular potted plant, in a hanging basket or as a trailing component in a plant arrangement.
- To grow healthy string of pearls, one needs to: (1) use well-draining soil. String of pearls is a succulent of desert-dwelling. Therefore, using well-draining soil is essential. Succulent potting mix, sandy soil or peat-based potting mix with extra perlite can do the job. (2) Give the plants enough light. String of pearls may stay well with bright indirect light. The plants thrive with a certain amount of direct winter sunlight or filtered summer sunlight and cannot tolerate low light. (3) water the plants when the soil becomes deeply dry. Because of its succulent nature, string of pearls does not need much water. The plant is very sensitive to overwatering.
