Description Crispy wave fern (Asplenium Nidus) is a very unique plant with wavy fronds. This bird’s- nest shaped plant is in a bright apple-green color and shiny. Crispy wave fern is a fast growing plant but hardly grows taller than two feet indoors. In nature, these plants are epiphytic, meaning that they grow on the surface of other plants, such as tree branches or palm fronds (search “Bird’s Nest Fern in trees” online to view astonishing images). Crispy wave fern is one of the top air purifying plants and very easy to grow. Crispy wave fern is especially suitable for places with high humidity and low light such as bathroom and terrarium. The plants are safe for humans and pets but are not edible. Care tips As an epiphyte feeding on decomposing organic matter, crispy wave fern thrives with soils that are rich in organic materials and well-draining with moisture holding capacity. Pine bark, coarse sand, perlite and peat moss are great components. Naturally, crispy wave fern grows at shaded or partially shade locations. Therefore, bright to medium indirect light is the best for these plants. Avoid direct sunlight. Unlike succulents that need good drainage and to be on the dry side, crispy wave fern needs good drainage but constant moisture but not soggy. Avoid using water that is too cold and watering the rosette center of the plant. It is also important to use purified water or rain water as fluoride in tap water may damage the roots. If tap water is the only option, collect it one day in advance before use. The plant may tolerate short-term dry soil but should not be too long or repetitive. Crispy wave fern enjoys warm temperatures of 60 to 72°F and high humidity of 60 to 90%. Avoid temperatures lower than 55°F or higher than 100°F. Mist the plant twice or more times a day during the dry season or place it in an area with high humidity such as the bathroom. If planted with a rich soil, feeding is not necessary.
