Description Boston Fern (Nephrolepis exaltata) is also known as the sword fern, ladder fern, boss fern. The plant is grown for its beautiful foliage. Like most ferns, Boston fern likes indirect light and certain humidity. Misting is beneficial to the plant, especially during the winter when the air is dry. Potting mix should have a moisture retaining capacity but well drained. It should be kept evenly moist. The fern does not enjoy extreme temperatures. Feeding is not necessary and may be done a couple of times during the growing season if desired.
